Do Mothballs Really Work Against Pigeons?
Whenever you look to get rid of pigeons, you will often hear that they do not like strong smells. You will certainly be offered all kinds of ideas for items that need to be sprinkled all over the areas pigeons love to hang out. One of them, especially, seems to enjoy some really undeserved popularity: mothballs against pigeons. Those recommending this say that mothballs have such a strong smell that they make the pigeons leave. However, if you have ever tried this method, you know too well that it just does not work.
Using mothballs against pigeons is ineffective for a very simple reason: while the pigeons are not crazy about the smell, they will not be as disturbed by it to the extent some people like to imagine. Actually, the mothballs you place around your attic or your balcony will at most, cause a slight nuisance to the birds. What can be even worse is that the mothballs will actually cause you headaches and displeasure, since humans are not so crazy about this smell, either. Also, other animals, such as your pets, may eat the mothballs and get poisoned, so you should stay away from these. You will be better served to exclude the birds by making sure they can't enter the area they keep coming into.
